Art Beyond

Getting Personal: Esther's "Why"

For those of you who don’t know me and haven’t wandered over to the About section yet, my name is Esther Davidson. I am the co-founder of Art Beyond, and the business operations manager at EllaFae Art. I bring the business mind to the table.

I have a pretty diverse career history. I’ve worked for a bingo hall (twice!), for Home Depot, for the US Army, for the corporate offices of Belk, and for a small engineering firm. I’ve spent time as a cashier, an operations assistant, an executive admin, an office manager, and a project coordinator. I have always felt driven to learn more and take on new challenges and responsibilities.  I've never been scared to learn something new or ask for help. I thrive in business support positions and I love solving problems. My motto is "if I don't know, I will find out."

In June 2023, Elizabeth approached me about joining her at EllaFae Art. She needed someone with project management and business operations experience to help manage her business and some very large projects. My job at the time was no longer a good fit. I’d outgrown my position, like a plant with roots bursting out of its pot, but I never would have left that job on my own. I felt too much loyalty to the firm and I was scared the grass wouldn’t be greener on the other side. If Elizabeth hadn’t asked me to work for her, I know I’d still be there. She says that she stole me away because she saw the potential for me to fill a gap in the creative world. I left because she asked me to.

The Divine had a higher plan. The Universe has a way of showing us that OUR reason isn't always THE reason.

It wasn’t until I went to work with Elizabeth that I realized the way my brain works isn't “boring” and it also isn’t the way everyone else’s works, not even my "business" peers. I knew some of us were more organized than others or better with numbers, but I didn’t realize that everyone doesn’t evaluate creative opportunities the same way. They wouldn’t ask the same questions in a client meeting. They do not have the ability to translate business concepts for creative endeavors and they don’t understand projects from both the client’s and the creative’s perspective. I started to realize that my zone of genius, my art, is special and unique and needed.

I am here at this time, in this place, with this life experience to use my skills and knowledge to support creatives. It only took a couple of months working together for Elizabeth to convince me to do the one thing I said I would NEVER do… start my own business (with her). If not us, who? If not now, when?

And so sweet creatives, YOU are my WHY: every painter, every poet, every musician, every dreamer, every one of you.

I want to arm each of you with knowledge and resources and do the work for you when it’s too much. I’ll never be a prolific painter, a famous musician, a world renowned author, but I can be the support that holds you up and catapults you into greatness.

❤️- Esther
